Owens - Orvid J., 81, Lincoln, died Wednesday (3/13/02). Born, rural Carroll
(4/7/20 to Owen and Ora (Davis)). Retired educator, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Wayne State College in Wayne; Wayne Public Schools, Wayne; Allen Public Schools. Graduated, Carroll High School;
bachelor's degree, University of Nebraska; master's degree and doctorate, University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colo. Taught business education and music before joining UNL staff where he coordinated
workshops for Division of Continuing Education. His favorite was the church music workshops in conjunction with the School of Music. Married, N. Jean (Nelsen), June 12, 1949, in Presbyterian Church,
Lyons. They have three daughters. He had a wide range of interests. He was 100 percent Welsh and served many ways in St. David's Welsh Society of Nebraska. Board member of National Gamanfa Ganu
Association; attended its annual national meeting 18 years. Instrumental in bringing two large men's choirs from Wales to Lincoln to give concerts. Music was another of his interests, including church
music, jazz and classical. Member of International Association of Jazz Educators and attended its annual meeting many years. Member, Eastridge Presbyterian Church, served as elder, deacon, choir member
and on music committee. Active member, Lincoln Center Kiwanis Club, served on many committees.
Survivors: wife, Jean; daughters, sons-in-law, Jane Owens, Boston, Mass., Ann Owens and Robin Forman, Houston, Sue and
Bob Hedrick, Lincoln; grandsons, Jackson and Sam Hedrick, Saul Forman; sister, Mary Faith (Owens) Schroeder and husband, John; brothers, Haydn and wife Genevieve, Lowell and wife Marjorie, Stanley and
wife Ethel; many nieces, nephews, cousins and an aunt. Preceded in death by parents; infant sister.
Celebration of Life service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Eastridge Presbyterian Church, 1135 Eastridge Drive. Pastor Jim Crelin,
Eastridge Church. Interment for family: 11 a.m. Saturday, Lincoln Memorial Park. Pallbearers: Haydn Owens, Lowell Owens, Stanley Owens (brothers), Bob Hedrick (son-in-law), Milton Owens, Dean Owens
